Shwedagon Festival


Location : Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon Division
There are many famous pagodas in Myanmar. But, the most famous pagoda is the Shwedagon Pagoda. It is one of the wonders of the world. It is situated on Singuttara Hill and is about rwo miles north of the Port of Yangon. The Shwedagon Pagoda is a Mynamar’s outstanding landmark.

As the Shwedagon Pagoda is very famous, many people from all parts of the country come to worship the Shwedagon Pagoda every day. Not only have the people from different regions of Myanmar but also foreigners visited this pagoda. We can get to the Shwedagon Pagoda by bus or by taxi. It has three lifts and only one escalator. Tabaung festival of the Shwedagon Pagoda is always held on the fullmoon day of Tabaung every year. The festival lasts for three days before the fullmoon day, the fullmoon day and after the fullmoon day. There are many food stalls and entertainment during the festival occasion. They are many and varied. Some shops sold foods. Some sold clothes, some sold toys, etc. There are many shops selling foods and drinks such as fried noodles, assorted fried crispier, baked glutinous rice in bamboo tubes.
