Raffles Grand hotel D'Angkor
Five miles from Angkor Wat, a grand, historic hotel in colonial - style fronted by 15 acres of gardens and raised portico represents "Asian hospitality at its best". It opened its doors in the early 1930s and located on the main road to Angkor Wat and was planned so that it aligns on a north - south axis with Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Now sensitively restored, the hotel's classic style coupled with its renewed modernity complement the grandeur of Angkor Wat.
This grand historic hotel with just 119 rooms and suites is situated in the centre of Siem Reap.
Established in 1932 it housed the earliest travellers to the Angkor Temples and has since been a symbol of style and elegance in the city.
Touches include the wrought iron lobby elevator, black-and-white marble floors, and Khmer furniture.
Rooms with Art Deco country furnishings and Cambodian paintings have balconies that open to views of the pool or French gardens.
Le Grand serves Khmer dishes such as stir-fried pork, but “the dining facilities need some improvement.” The pool is surrounded by frangipani trees.
As we like to think of ourselves as wine connoisseurs in the making, our favorite part of the dining experience was choosing from the 400 wines the restaurant offers. Raffles Amrita Spa offers treatments combining the best of Western technologies and Eastern therapies. For special treat, a 35m-lap pool is inspired by ancient royal bathing pools available to serve you. Other facilities include bars and lounges, a library, beautifully landscaped gardens, and, nearby, a wonderful local night market.
